Some of the fans of West Bromwich were furious after witnessing what Sam Johnstone had done on Saturday afternoon.
Although it was argued that the shot-stopper wouldn’t have done much with any of the goals he allowed in their 2-2 draw (BBC), with his talent, that didn’t seem to stop too many fans from getting angry about his ability on twitter.
Indeed, the 26-year-old found himself being assaulted on social media by loyal fans of the club and made many criticisms of his skills in commanding his area, and one fan decided to even call him a “shamble”.
According to TransferMarkt, Johnstone worth £6.3 million, was given a poor game rating by WhoScored’s algorithm with a score as low as 5.47, although this may be due to the fact that he did not make a save in the match.
In general, football supporters can be a fickle lot at times, as it is worth noting that the former youth player of Manchester United has kept 7 clean sheets in his 33 appearances in the Championship, conceding just over one-a-match with a total of 36 (per TransferMarkt).
Nevertheless, every game is obviously different and these fans will feel they have a right to criticise the keeper’s latest performance.
The following are just some of their reactions：
